Definition

The commonly used term "tendonitis" has fallen out of favor. The "-ite" ending means inflammation, but not all tendon injuries are inflammatory. In fact, the term tendinopathy is more appropriate and should be used whenever we're talking about tendon pain. This is a very frequent category of pathologies, which, depending on their type, tend to require the use of various technologies to optimize treatment. This is where Hi-TENS by R-SHOCK really comes into its own, since thanks to its different modes, it can treat all three types of tendinopathy.

Diagnostics

Given the complexity of treating tendon damage, the key is to establish the correct diagnosis of the tendinopathy. The physiotherapist trained by the Academy is in the best position to determine this and choose the most appropriate treatment!

About tendinosis

Tendinosis, a non-inflammatory degeneration of the tendon, can take several months to treat. Its clinical signs are severe pain on stretching and contraction, but little sensitivity to palpation.

In this pathology, the SHOCK mode of the Hi-TENS by R-SHOCK device helps combat fibrosis of the tendon body, by generating hyperthermia and by its effect on collagen and neo-vascularization.

About tenosynovitis

Tenosynovitis is an inflammation of the tendon and its synovial sheath. It is manifested by pain on stretching (increased when the sheath is pinched) and palpation, but not on contraction.

To treat this sheath inflammation, the SWAP mode, which combines alternating RF/PULSE and a capacitive effect with localized gentle heat, is best suited. It is generally recommended for its analgesic and trophic effects, and its effectiveness in acute pathologies.

About enthesopathy

Enthesopathy is a general term for damage to an enthesis, whether inflammatory (enthesitis) or mechanical. Enthesopathy is a general term for damage to an enthesis, whether inflammatory (enthesitis) or mechanical, and is caused by a mismatch between the stresses to which the enthesis is subjected and its mechanical strength, which is still limited by the immaturity of the skeleton. It manifests as pain on palpation (in contact with the bone, the insertion zone) and pain on contraction.

The MIX mode (RF + PULSE) is the most effective way to solve the problem of enthesis irrigation deficit. It generates strong heat and has excellent drainage properties. More broadly, this mode is also recommended for deep contractures, muscle stiffness and deep vascularization.
